CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–ST Imaging (ST) (www.stimaging.com), a technology provider of digital microfilm and book scanning technology, announced it has filed inter parties review (IPR) proceedings with the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the United States Patent and Trademark Office against U.S. Patent Nos. 8,537,279 (the ‘279 patent) and 9,179,019 (the ‘019 Patent) owned by e-Image Data. These patents relate to digital microform imaging apparatuses. The IPRs have been assigned the following case numbers: IPR2017-00177 and IPR2017-00178.
Bruce Rennecker, Vice President of ST Imaging, says, “The technology behind microform reader/printers and scanners, including ST Imaging’s universal carrier, has been known for decades. The basic idea of viewing a microform document using a light source, bent by a mirror and viewed through a lens is nothing new in this industry. The natural progression into digital capture occurred in the 1980’s and many products had the ability to capture microform documents using an image sensor to produce an image on a monitor.”
In May of 2016, e-Image Data initiated a lawsuit against ST Imaging alleging that the ST ViewScan line of scanners infringed the‘279 and ‘019 Patents. ST Imaging filed non-infringement and invalidity counterclaims against e-Image Data in June of 2016.
