“We were so happy for the library and the scanner to be featured on the NBC Show.”

As celebrity Blair Underwood searched for clues about his family’s legacy and history, his search took him to Jones Memorial Library in Lynchburg, VA. Jones Memorial, the second oldest library in Virginia, was established in 1908 by Mary Frances Watts Jones as a memorial to her husband, philanthropist and industrialist George Morgan Jones, and specializes in the collection of historical and genealogical records.

Susan Pillow, Director at Jones Memorial was not looking to replace her functional reader/printer; however, the library had a problem with a microfilm collection of funeral home records dating back to 1820s– the old film was a poor quality negative film which was almost unreadable on the old system. Yet, when she placed the film in the ST ViewScan those old films became readable archives once more. “Jones Memorial Library has 3,000-4,000 rolls of film in its collection and the ViewScan System has made this history more accessible,” said Pillow. “We were so happy for the library and the scanner to be featured on the NBC Show.”

“We are pleased to see how our technology is improving the way people view microfilm, and enabling them to obtain valuable information that many times is only available on this type of media,” remarked Dan Donaldson, Director of Imaging Products at ST Imaging.

–Now microfilm libraries can be viewed from anywhere in the world with Internet access—

Northbrook IL, October 6, 2011 -ST Imaging (STI) (www.stimaging.com), a technology provider of micrographics and book scanning technology, announces technology to access and view microfilm libraries from anywhere in the world with Internet availability.

“Gone are the days in which a person had to physically go to the film library to view the rolls of film. Now, with the use of STI technology and the Internet, a person can view film libraries located anywhere in the world from any other location in the world via our remote access functionality,” said Dan Donaldson, director, imaging products for STI.

Not only can the microfilm be accessed and viewed remotely, in addition, selected images can also be scanned and emailed to the viewer through the technology. Whether it is a professor or student across campus from the library, or an attorney on the other side of the world, film libraries are no longer bound within the walls of the film archive. All of the functionality of the STI ViewScan PC is available to viewers through an Internet connection to that PC. Requests can be sent to have the desired film roll loaded onto the system and then through LogMeIn.com or any other remote access software system, the user can view and select images to scan and send.

For more information about STI’s remote access feature or other microfilm products, visit us at www. stimaging.com, or call (856) 885-6152; or email sales@stimaging.com.

– New conversion kit saves institutions over $1,000 by using existing carriers with STI’s ViewScan—

Northbrook IL, August 16, 2011 – ST Imaging (STI), a manufacturer and supplier of micrographics and book scanning technology, announces the availability of a new microfilm carrier conversion kit to adapt popular model microfilm carriers with the popular STI ViewScan microfilm scanner.

With many libraries experiencing restrictions on budgets and spending, STI provides libraries with a way to save money by reusing an existing film/fiche carrier, while updating to the latest technology in scanners through the use of STI’s new film scanner carrier conversion kit. This kit allows the organization to adapt a Minolta UC7, Alos UC59, or Alos Canon CC900 carrier to work with STI’s advanced ViewScan scanner. “By using STI’s kit to reuse its existing carriers, libraries can save over $1000 on the purchase of a new digital film and fiche scanner” says Dan Donaldson, director, imaging products for STI. Donaldson added, “Library budgets are tight, so the ability to reuse a piece of equipment that they already own helps them do more with less while providing better services to their patrons.”

The ViewScan scanner is known for its ease of use and comprehensive features, allowing researchers to quickly find, enhance, crop, and save the image to a thumb drive, email account or file server, or to print out the scanned images. STI’s local resellers also provide training and support to ensure the greatest return on investment over the life of the product.

– On display at booth 865 at the Association of College & Research Libraries conference—

PHILADELPHIA, March 31, 2011 – ST Imaging (STI) introduced an integrated Pay for Print or Pay for Scan solution for the ST ViewScan and ST BookScan Center products. “Libraries are always looking for ways to cut and offset the cost of providing their services” said Dan Donaldson, director of digital imaging products for ST Imaging, “now for the first time ever, libraries can have a pay per use system that will enable them to charge for printing or saving scanned images to electronic media.”

ST Imaging will be demonstrating the payment system, ST ViewScan, and ST BookScan Center at the Association of College & Research Libraries Conference. These products present a major opportunity for organizations to improve services, reduce costs and recover lost revenue by charging patrons for scanned or printed images. Each of the units provide convenient USB ports on the front of the scanner panel allowing patrons to save images directly to their thumb drives. These ports can also be used by the organization for USB based authentication systems.

ST Imaging will give a complementary 1GB thumb drive to each ACRL attendee that stops by for demonstration of the ST ViewScan or ST BookScan.

For more information about ST ViewScan and its enhancements, please find an authorized reseller at www.STImaging.com or visit them at the Association of College & Research Libraries conference in Philadelphia, March 30-April 2 in booth 856.

– On display at the upcoming Association of College & Research Libraries conference—

NORTHBROOK, IL, March 24, 2011 – ST Imaging (STI), a division of Digital Check Corp., and a leading manufacturer and reseller of digital microfilm scanners, today announced significant enhancements to the camera and free upgrades to the image processing software of its ST ViewScan Film Scanner.

“These changes will improve the user experience with our ST ViewScan,” said Dan Donaldson, director of imaging products at ST Imaging, “not only have we improved the quality of the image produced by the scanner, but our new Target Area Enhancement feature will now allow the user to highlight a portion of the image to apply separate enhancements to that area of the page, such as for a dark photo or damaged area of the page.”

STI’s Target Area Enhancement feature is designed for areas of a scanned image that may be too dark or too light. Without affecting the rest of the document, potentially making copy within the document too light, the specific area can be enhanced improving picture quality and removing other document defects. This complementary upgrade is available from your local dealer and is compatible with all ViewScan devices.

Other recent enhancements to the ST ViewScan include adding additional USB ports to the front of the device. These ports may be used by patrons to save scanned images to a thumb drive while the optional 2nd USB port can be used with USB based authentication systems.

For more information about ST ViewScan and its enhancements, please find an authorized reseller at www.STImaging.com or visit them at the Association of College & Research Libraries conference in Philadelphia, March 30-April 2 in booth 856.

ST Imaging Raises the Bar for Film Scanner Software

– New ViewScan® software enhancements streamline scanner use —

NORTHBROOK, IL, December 21,, 2010 – Local manufacturer and International distributor ST Imaging, a division of Digital Check Corp., and a leading manufacturer and reseller of digital microfilm scanners, today announced major enhancements to its ViewScan software platform. ViewScan is ST Imaging’s leading microfilm, microfiche, opaque micro card and aperture card scanning device that can be operated either locally or remotely via a web interface. Included with each ViewScan is ST Imaging’s proprietary software that allows users to capture and manipulate the images for easier reading, retention, and representment.

Included among the new features of the ViewScan software is Image Straighten, a feature that makes deskewing a literal snap. Now, to straighten a skewed image, the user simply drags across the page or image, releases the mouse button and the image is automatically deskewed. This command can be repeated for multiple images or automated for multiple images on a roll with the same degree of skew. “This is the easiest deskewing process on the market and will save users a tremendous amount of time and effort for our customers,” said Dan Donaldson, director of imaging products for ST Imaging.

In addition to the Image Straighten feature, ST Imaging is also introducing its Scissor Cut™ feature which provides intelligent cropping and masking capabilities, allowing users to capture only needed information from each image. These new elements join a growing list of industry leading functions offered by ST Imaging software, including: roaming desktop network support, an easier to use magnify function, automatic file backup and recovery, and advanced support for over a dozen languages.

Donaldson added, “ViewScan is the fastest and easiest to use media scanner on the market and with these added enhancements we continue to increase the value of our customer’s investment in ST Imaging products”

The latest ViewScan version is compatible with all ST ViewScan models. This software update is available at no charge to existing customers. Customers may request the latest version from their local authorized reseller, or visit the support pages at www.stimaging.com.

ST Imaging Introduces a New Line of Book Scanning Solutions

– Cost-effective and easy to use self-serve solutions for libraries and organizations—

NORTHBROOK, IL, November 3, 2010 – Local manufacturer and International distributor ST Imaging, a division of Digital Check Corp., and a leading manufacturer and reseller of digital microfilm scanners, today announced a new partnership relationship with Plustek Technology Inc., a manufacturer of consumer, prosumer, professional and office imaging devices (including portable scanners, sheet fed/flat bed scanners, graphics scanners and IP cameras), to sell custom collection scanning solutions to libraries. These will include the ST BookScan Center™ and ST BookReader Center™ collection scanning solutions.

The ST ViewScan™ system is designed to allow library patrons and organizations the ability to easily view, print and capture microfilm images from the screen of a PC or kiosk in less than a minute. “Plustek’s ST BookScan Center™ kiosks are the perfect complement to ST Imaging’s microfilm scan center solutions,” said Dan Donaldson, ST’s Director of Imaging Products. “Now ST Imaging can provide our customers book scanning solutions that mirror the key criteria for our film scanning solutions which include advanced technology, easy and intuitive use, high quality, low cost, fast performance, and compact size.” The plug and play system includes a PC and scanner, an intuitive touch screen interface, and preinstalled software.

“We are pleased to partner with one of the world’s leading library scanning solution providers,” said David Chen, vice president of Plustek. “Together we can deliver real value to libraries that, unlike copiers which damage book spines, preserves the book and improves the quality of the scan through our zero edge design.” The ST BookScan Center™ uses patented technology to deliver the fastest high resolution color flatbed book scans on the market. And it does so at a fraction of the price for large overhead camera alternatives. This is the ideal walk up system for library users and can be set up for free scanning, or to allow libraries to charge for scans or prints.

In addition to the ST BookScan Center,™ ST Imaging and Plustek are also introducing the ST BookReader Center.™ The ST BookReader Center™ puts together a complete collection scanning solution for libraries that allows users to hear books read to them. It comes with an integrated PC and intuitive touch screen interface with one button operation, and features highly accurate OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and auto document orientation. This combination guarantees correct output for TTS (Text To Speech). The Book Reader transforms printed words into audio output which can be listened to during the scanning session, or saved in MP3 and other audio formats for archiving and later access.

These unique kiosk style solutions are available from select ST Imaging resellers in the USA and Canada. To find a reseller near you, to request an onsite demonstration, or for more information, visit their website at www.stimaging.com or email info@stimaging.com.

S-T Imaging and its partners introduce a major breakthrough product worldwide

CHICAGO - Local manufacturer and International distributor S-T Imaging, a Digital Check Corp company, introduces the all new ST ViewScan Crossover™. This product incorporates state of the art technology enabling the enhanced viewing and the fast and efficient scanning and digitization of microfilm, opaque microcards, microfiche and aperture cards.
Libraries, government and private businesses alike now have the ability to digitally view, research and digitize their collections of micro media in an easy and efficient manner. The product represents a whole new and unique class of microfilm tool, a Crossover™ digital microfilm system. Unlike other scanners on the market, or old reader printers, this product combines the best ease of use features of traditional large screen readers for easy viewing, browsing, and searching – with the newest, fastest, and easiest all-digital image capture technology on the market. You can push physical buttons on the carrier to move film at various speeds, and still see the pages that go by as you search without the image pixilating the way it does on all other film scanners. Realistic film movement buttons on the screen of the pc give customers who prefer to click a mouse to move film an easy to use alternative to the physical film buttons. Once you have the image you want on the screen it only takes a second to capture to digital media or print at high resolution.

The ST ViewScan™ solution offers many new unique improvements not found in any older alternate offering, here are just a few of them:

Intuitive and easy to use desktop software that eliminates the need for a jumble of cartoonish icons to perform viewing and scanning functions

The ability to simultaneously view both the thumbnails of scanned images, and a live real-time view on the screen of unscanned film images prior to scanning, capture and output

High-quality image viewing with virtually no pixilation during browsing and searching from page to page

Extremely quiet operation, with loud noise while zooming the camera and no fan noise

Enhanced sub-second batch capture of high very high resolution images

Enhanced viewing mode that incorporates the newest high speed pixel rendering processes to improve image refresh speeds, improve image quality, and virtually eliminate scratches and dust

Breakthrough ease of use with improved onscreen controls, image work flow processes, and featuring S-T’s exclusive new Scissor Cut™ cropping tool

ICIR™ (Immediate Captured Image Review) to be able to see what you captured without having to close down the application and open a saved file.

ST ViewScan™ – An Integrated Solution

Only the ST Viewscan utilizes in its microfilm offering the latest in high resolution precision camera and lens technology found in laser-based surgery applications. The ST ViewScan’s ingenious design allows for future technology refresh without having to replace the basic system. Unlike all other microfilm solutions that require purchase of a complete new Scanner System Model to update the scanning technology, only the ST ViewScan™ virtually eliminates model obsolescence. The life-time guaranteed light sources, industry standard film carrier mechanisms, and industry leading full year warranty provide durability, a proven design, and easy to load unobstructed film path, while minimizing service costs.
The ST ViewScan™ is seamlessly integrated, using a single power cable for all components, yet extremely flexible and modular in design. The system has a very small and environment-friendly footprint, requiring a fraction of the space, cooling, or power used by traditional reader/printers. It is both RoHS-compliant and CE-certified. The software works across the entire spectrum of Windows 32 bit and 64 bit Operating Systems.
